The Triogen e-box converts waste heat from diesel engine exhausts into electricity and is a zero-carbon technology. Like solar photovoltaic (PV) power, it can reduce fuel consumption in off-grid diesel power plants. The e-box can save significant quantities of fuel, with a one third quicker payback times than solar, and with much simpler engineering integration requirements. This paper presents a case study of a mine with a constant 10MW electrical load supplied by 10 diesel genset units each providing 1MW of power, with a fuel consumption of 0.26 l/kWh and fuel costs of $1.0/l.
