Triogen now offers a new approach to cutting fossil fuel use in mining. With its heat recovery technology, the company will provide the extractive market with a newly packaged energy efficiency technology for high-speed diesel generators at the Investing in African Mining Indaba 2017 from February 6th to 9th.

According to a report by the University of Cambridge, the mining industry represents about 2.7% of worldwide industrial energy use. This energy demand is largely served by diesel-powered machinery.

Energy efficiency is the most important strategy in this industry. However, diesel generators convert only 40% of the fuel energy into electricity. The remaining energy is essentially wasted as heat into the atmosphere.

Triogen’s Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology converts the unused exhaust heat into electricity. When the hot exhaust gas passes through the ORC, it generates 170kW electric power, which the engine does not need to provide. Over the course of a year, this leads to five fuel trucks that can be taken off the road per ORC. The savings correspond to a 5-8% fuel reduction per engine. This solution is cost effective, environmentally friendly and reduces risks for the mines by reducing fuel movements and increasing the reach of on-site fuel storage.

Triogen’s “e-box” is based on the experience of more than 700.000 operating hours. Engineered to fit into two 20ft shipping containers, it is made to withstand the harshest conditions and is designed specifically for remote-site generators.
